Book Two progress

I’ve been busy, and I apologize for not blogging in a while. My day job has been hectic in a good way, and Book One sales are steady. I’m still navigating the nightmare that is advertising and marketing. Book One has now sold, in various formats, in six countries. I’m nowhere near break‑even yet, but I’m pleased nonetheless.
Book Two originally had a very aggressive launch target, and I moved that up myself in the hope that I’ll be able to participate in the Boozy Book Fair in Kansas City this October. Fingers crossed. Since late April, I’ve managed to complete roughly one chapter every other weekend, and now, with a few days off and a bad case of vertigo so I cant drive, I’m grabbing the opportunity to pound out some pages.
I was really cruising today. The words were flowing through Whisper Sync, onto the page, through the editor, and into the first draft. It’s actually been moving very nicely.
Until about an hour ago.
I knew one of my planned arcs for Book Two would be tough to write. I had no idea how tough. I had to stop because I started crying, actual real tears. The scenes I just finished are some of the most powerful in the entire trilogy so far. I had to get up, leave my office, and walk outside to clear my head.
If I dare say it, I think Book Two is turning out to be more powerful than Book One. Is that how it typically works? I have no idea. This is my first trilogy and only my second fiction novel. But the depth of the storylines around the key characters is so much richer in Book Two that I keep having to remind myself: this isn’t a romance novel, and it’s not a medical thriller. The backbone is definitely science fiction, but my hope is that readers will find something in the writing that doesn’t fit neatly in any genre box. I want it to seep through those pre‑ordained constraints and draw readers in with more than one hook.
I do know this: writing, for me, is divine. If I never sell another book, I will still cherish this process for the rest of my life. And as I write more, I’m driven to keep writing more. I constantly have to keep a multitude of other story ideas from flooding the zone that is my creative mind.
Anyway, that’s my recap for now. Book Two is now targeted for early October 2026, and I think it’s going to be really good.
