About the author.

The idea for Threadborn Echo began the way many of Mike Talbot’s stories begin—during an ordinary moment that took an unexpected turn. In early 2014, over a casual lunch with a colleague, Mike shared a simple speculative idea. The reaction he received wasn’t mild curiosity, but something closer to shock—an intensity that startled him and stayed with him long after the conversation ended. That moment, and the way it unsettled someone he respected, became the spark he couldn’t let go of.

Later that night, he brought the idea home and shared it with several of his older children. What started as an interesting “what if?” quickly grew into a deeper discussion about the future, technology, and the shape of human connection. By the end of the evening, the earliest threads of Threadborn Echo had taken form—threads he continued to follow for more than a decade.

Although Mike would go on to publish a book about blockchain technology, this novel represents a completely different pursuit. It draws not just from his professional background in emerging technologies, but from a lifelong curiosity about where innovation might lead us—and what it might cost.

Rooted in the intersection of the personal and the speculative, Threadborn Echo is Mike’s attempt to explore the future not as a distant possibility, but as something we’re building every day, often without realizing it.

Mike lives in the Midwest with his family, where new ideas still tend to show up the same way this one did: unexpectedly, in conversation, and impossible to ignore once they arrive.
