This site is operated by Michael Talbot, author of the Threadborn Echo Trilogy. This policy explains what information the site collects, why it is collected, and what choices you have. It applies to threadbornecho.com and not to any other website you reach from it.
Information you give me
You give me information only when you choose to. That includes your email address if you subscribe to the mailing list, the name and email address you use if you create an account or comment on a blog post, and anything you write to me directly by email.
I use your email address to send updates about the books and the writing, and for nothing else. I do not sell it, rent it, or trade it. Every mailing includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.
Information collected automatically
Like nearly every website, this one records basic technical information when you visit. That includes your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how long you stay, and the site or search that referred you.
Two services collect this on my behalf. The first is Wix, which hosts the site and provides its built in visitor statistics. The second is Google Analytics, which I use to understand which pages readers actually find useful. Both use cookies or similar technologies to do this.
I look at this information in aggregate. I am interested in whether a page is working, not in identifying individual visitors.
Cookies and how to refuse them
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses them to keep the site functioning, to remember you if you are signed in, and to support the analytics described above.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can opt out of Google Analytics specifically by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available from Google. Blocking cookies may affect signing in or commenting, but the rest of the site will work normally.
Accounts and comments
If you create an account or leave a comment, that account is provided through Wix and is subject to Wix's own privacy terms in addition to this policy. Comments you post are public. Please do not include anything in a comment that you would not want published, including personal contact details.
I may remove comments that are abusive, off topic, or spam. You may ask me to delete your comments or your account at any time using the contact address below.
Buying the books
No payment is ever taken on this site. Order buttons send you to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Apple Books or Audible, and your purchase happens entirely on their systems. I never see your payment details. Once you leave this site, the privacy policy of that retailer applies, not this one. I have no control over what those companies collect.
Who else sees your information
Only the service providers that make the site work, which today means Wix and Google, and only for the purposes described here. I do not sell your personal information. I would disclose information if the law required it, and I would tell you if I were permitted to do so.
How long information is kept
Mailing list subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments and accounts are kept until you ask me to remove them. Analytics data is retained according to the default retention settings of Wix and Google Analytics.
Your choices
You may ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. You may unsubscribe from the mailing list at any time. If you are in a place with specific privacy rights, such as the European Union, the United Kingdom or California, tell me when you write and I will honour the rights that apply to you.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given me information, write to me and I will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted on the site.
Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
